As SK Telecom T1 prepares to defend its World Champion title, mid laner Lee Faker Sang-hyeok, dubbed the Unkillable Demon King and often referred to as the Michael Jordan of esports, is in comfortable territory. The 20-year-old won his first World Championship at 17 in 2013 at the Staples Center, as he led his team, SK Telecom T1 K, to a strong run. Again, at 19 in 2015, the worlds best player repeated history and defeated foe KOO Tigers in the finals in Berlins Mercedes-Benz Arena. But as he walks into the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers this weekend, he faces arguably his toughest Worlds mid lane opponent yet in Samsung Galaxys Lee Crown Min-ho. Crown, for his part, has had an incredible World Championship so far, proving to be one of the best mid laners in a tournament that featured 16 total teams at the outset. Known for his play on mage champion Viktor, Crown will try to dethrone the fellow South Korean titan and his allies -- something few before him have accomplished. The mid lane matchup on Saturday is the one to watch. Expect displays of extreme talent from both Faker and Crown; given the right champions in the pick-and-ban phase, these mid laners could single-handedly turn the games on their heads. PL Darts Full results as MVG beat Barney But theres still plenty at stake, and plenty to learn from the most recent edition of arrows. There is just one week of the normal season remaining before the top four players head to Londons O2 Arena to see who will be crowned the 2016 champion.Five talking points from this week... Master still mentoring Phil Taylor is relishing a match with MVG next week Taylor is still convincingly in charge of his long-time rivalry with Adrian Lewis, particularly when they collide on the biggest stages. The latest result, a 7-2 win for The Power stretches his unbeaten run to five matches in the Premier League against Lewis. This season, Taylor has an aggregate win of 14-3 against his former protege from Stoke. The overall head-to-head is frighteningly one-sided - Taylor leads 51-15 - although some of that can be attributed to a prime Power taking on the up-and-coming Jackpot. But with Lewis now a 31-year-old two-time world champion, it is time for him to start readdressing the balance of Power. But Lewis leads play-off race Adrian Lewis lost but remained fourth Its not all bad news, Jackpot! The Stoke thrower may have lost to Taylor but he still sits in the precious No 4 spot which he must hold in order to qualify for the season finale.Lewis has 17 points, one above Peter Snakebite Wright - the only player who can mathematically catch him with just one fixture remaining. Lewis cant catch third-placed Anderson, who is guaranteed his play-off spot.Next week in Rotterdam, the final fixtures before the play-offs in London, Lewis has the daunting task of playing defending champion Anderson. A draw would suffice to book Lewis ticket to The O2 Arena, while Wright takes on Van Barneveld.MVG getting over Barney hoodoo Michael van Gerwen misses his ninth dart! Sky Sports expert Wayne Mardle has regularly insisted that Dutch legend Van Barneveld raises his game when he plays his younger compatriot Van Gerwen, pointing most notably to Barneys World Championship last-16 win in January.dddddddddddd.When Barney plays Van Gerwen, its horses for courses, Mardle said. Certain players love playing others. But in Manchester, it was Van Gerwen playing with extra gusto as he romped to a 7-2 victory.Overall, Van Gerwen has a 24-16 head-to-head advantage over the elder statesman, having won four of their last six. The world No 1, it appears, is slowly ironing out one of the only weaknesses in his game…Well see another nine-darter… surely! Michael van Gerwen reflects on the near nine-darter Van Gerwen faltered with the ninth dart of an otherwise perfect leg - drawing huge sighs from an expectant crowd desperate to see darts most fabled shot.Lewis, earlier this season, struck the first Premier League nine-darter in four years but the idea of two arriving together must wait for another week. Van Gerwen came close but proved that the top 10 players in the world have too much quality between them to wait another four years. There has only ever been seven nine-dart finishes in the near 12-year history of the competition - of the active players, Taylor has three, Van Barneveld has two and Lewis has one. So is there time for one more in 2016?You can get thrashed... Peter Wright beat James Wade 7-1 Four one-sided results in Manchester proved that, even at the highest level of the game, players can dish out beatings to each other. But how does that happen? Our man Mardle, when describing a tour event that saw Van Gerwen shocked 6-0 by Ian White, put into context how a high-level darts match can end so emphatically. Its three breaks of throw with a 106 average, Mardle said. If youre throwing first and you start with a 12-dart leg, youre very rarely going to be broken because the other guy would have to go out in nine. Then you break to go 2-0 up, then you hold again - because, dont forget, youre averaging 106 so the odds are that you wont give your opponent a fifth visit. In the notoriously short and quick-fire format of the Premier League, a few decisive breaks or a couple of lapse legs can quickly result in a thrashing.Watch Premier League Darts return next week on Thursday from Rotterdam - live on Sky Sports 1 HD at 7pm. Less than two weeks after his historic victory at UFC 205, when he became the first fighter to hold titles in multiple weight classes simultaneously, talk of whats next for Conor McGregor has continued to dominate headlines.McGregor announced he will take some time off after a hectic 2016 for the birth of his first child, and he isnt expected back in the Octagon until at least May, per UFC president Dana White. At the same time, talks about a superfight in boxing with retired champion Floyd Mayweather just wont seem to go away. But what about a third option -- the idea of McGregor entering the scripted world of pro wrestling during his upcoming hiatus from mixed martial arts, which coincides conveniently with WWEs WrestleMania 33 card on April 2 in Orlando, Florida?According to his agent, Audie Attar, who appeared Tuesday on ESPNs 5ive Rounds podcast, its something McGregor is willing to entertain -- as long as the money is right.I think its all about business, man, Attar said. If [WWE] is going to come with an offer, we are willing to entertain it. We are here. Have their people call his people -- which is me. We can have a conversation. The topic of a McGregor crossover into sports entertainment picked up steam when executive and 14-time WWE world champion Paul Triple H Levesque was in attendance at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Levesque gave an interview with a British newspaper in which he said McGregor would be a perfect fit for WWE.He could come over, hes got it all, man, Levesque told the Daily Telegraph. Hes got the personality, the skills, the talk. Hes an entertainer, for sure.Levesque went on to compare McGregor to Mayweather, who competed in a 2008 match at WrestleMania XXIV aagainst The Big Show?during a brief retirement from boxing.dddddddddddd Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey also made a?memorable appearance at WrestleMania 31 in 2015, nearly stealing the show when she teamed up with? The Rock?to exchange smack talk (and a hip-toss) opposite Triple H and his wife?Stephanie McMahon.Attar said McGregor has not had direct talks with WWE or Levesque as of yet, at UFC 205 or elsewhere.I think its phenomenal that a guy like Triple H was at the fights, Attar said. I heard he said some positive things, which is always good to hear.McGregor made headlines in August during a teleconference ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz, when the Irish star called out WWE/UFC crossover star?Brock Lesnar?for being juiced up to his f---ing eyeballs and?referred to WWE superstars in general as massive p---ies.To many, the comments were seen as McGregor playing the smart businessman, planting seeds for a potential move to WWE. He went on to double down on his original comments by taking more shots on social media. Its ultimately like, look -- I think Conor had his say via social media at times, but he also is someone that appreciates people that sacrifice and train and are dedicated to their craft, whatever it may be, Attar said.Would McGregor be willing to go as far as having a formal match with the WWE, similar to what Mayweather did, if the two sides came to terms?Again, I think ultimately Conor will say, Let me talk to my friend Benjamin [Franklin] to see how many of his friends hes bringing with him before we talk about what the obligations are, Attar said. After a scratchy start to a pre-Olympics camp, Matildas coach Alen Stajcic wants to see some polish against Brazil in their looming international friendly. The Matildas meet the Brazilians in Fortaleza on Saturday (Sunday AEST) before their Olympic Games campaign begins on August 3 against Canada.Stajcic says the result against Brazil isnt important - but plenty of other things are.The result isnt important, its certainly more important what we get out of it in terms of our preparation for the game against Canada, he told AAP from Fortaleza. So it will be different combinations, getting people in form, getting players match fit - all those things take precedence over the result. We are certainly taking a lot of objectives we want to achieve into the game. The Matildas, ranked fifth in the world, have been based in Fortaleza, in Brazils north-east, for the past week.It has been tough adjusting to the 13 hour time difference and the climate, Stajcic said. Most of our home-based players have come from training in Canberra in three, four degrees to 30 degrees here every day.A lot of players have started off a bit scratchy ... but everyone is really starting the gel over the last three or five days and were really coming together as a group.Stajcic plans to give 17 players in his 18-strong squad a hit out against the eighth-ranked Brazilians in a friendly expected to attract about 10,000 spectators. We have been working on all our patterns or play and our structures and we want to see that come out against Brazil, he said.We also want to see if theres any weaknesses that we can work on as we move forward over the next 10 days. The friendly is due to kickoff Saturday 4pm local time (Sunday 5am AEST). EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Odell Beckham Jr. wants the ball any way he can get it.If that means the big-play wide receiver adds the job of returning punts for the New York Giants, hes up for it.Beckham showed what he could do as a returner in the fourth quarter of the Giants 27-13 win over Cleveland on Sunday, fielding Britton Colquitts 54-yard punt, finding an opening in the converging Browns, and then cutting across the field for a 59-yard touchdown return .It was typical Beckham. He turned nothing into something and woke up the Giants. The touchdown was nullified by Mark Herzlichs holding penalty, but it again showed how much of a game breaker Beckham can be.Dont forget he also caught two touchdowns against Cleveland as the Giants (8-3) ran their winning streak to six games.Hopefully we get another chance to run some back, Beckham said Wednesday, looking forward to Sundays game in Pittsburgh. Its something Ive been doing pretty much all my life. Ive done punt return and kick return. Its just what it is. Its just another opportunity. They punt it and that ball is going straight to you. Your teammates are out there making the blocks. You just have to make cuts off of them.Beckham said returning and getting the feel for the ball helps him get going on offense.Hopefully you dont get hit but you get an opportunity to get tackled, said the 24-year-old, whose 65 catches are tied for seventh in the league. Its a lot of fun. Its something that I do enjoy. Hopefully I can help this team out in that way or whatever way I can.Beckham has practiced fielding punts all season. Dwayne Harris has handled the job almost all season, but he has been bothered by a wrist injury and running back Bobby Rainey handled the job against the Browns.Rainey fumbled a punt in the second quarter and Beckham took over in the second half, averaging 11.7 yards on three returns.Steelers coach Mike Tomlin saw the videotape of Beckham returning punts and was impressed. He needs no endorsement from me, he looks like a dangerous guy, Tomlin said. Guys like him, theyre capable of distinguishing themselves regardless of what you ask them to do. Hes a competitor, a skilled athlete, a playmaker, and thats what they do.Harris isnt sure whether he will be able to return punts this week, but he added his wrist is feeling better.Coach Ben McAdoo said he will make a decision on a punt returner later in the week.Beckham injured a thumb against the Browns last week in the first half but he played through it. He is not worried about it, or even the prospect that he might be hurt returning punts. Its a job that rarely is done by a teams best skilled player. You could do that playing football or crossing the street, Beckham said of the potential for injury. Its part of life. I dont really worry about being hurt at all. Its in Gods hands.I put the best preparation in my body that I can and take care of it the best that I can in order to go out there and not get hurt. Me being back there on punt return, getting hurt or anything like that is not really something Im worried about. It can happen on any play.Game notes RB Shane Vereen has been designated for return from injured reserve and practiced for the first time since tearing a triceps against Washington (Sept. 25). The near exit of coach Des Hasler from Canterbury will serve as a warning to the Bulldogs players in 2017 according to prop David Klemmer.Echoing the sentiments of club skipper James Graham last week, the Australia and NSW forward admitted he was shocked to hear the two-time NRL premiership winner was fighting to save his job last month. The former Manly mentor survived an emergency board meeting that resulted in the resignation of Bulldogs great Steve Mortimer, a fierce Hasler critic, following a tame NRL finals exit. But Klemmer claims the players, not just Hasler, need to shoulder a share of the blame for last seasons under-achievement.None of us were happy with how last season finished, Klemmer told AAP.I was surprised to read they were trying to get rid of Des and its good that hell be there next year. Its easy to blame the coach when things go wrong, but we as players have to share responsibility too.I wouldnt say we let Des down, we let ourselves down. We didnt execute as well as we should have and we can and we will be better next season.Klemmer is in line to face New Zealand on Saturday in the Four Nations and credits Haslers handling of him early in his career for helping become a regular for both NSW and the Kangaroos. In my first season he would leave me on the bench sometimes for up to 60-65 minutes or longer, he said.It meant I got to watch and learn a lot from the sidelines, but when I did get on I would really go flat out.I think it was a good way to handle me at the start of my career. Transitioning from a spread offense at Cal to a pro-style scheme with the Rams, Goff has struggled at times in training camp with snaps and footwork under center. In the second game for the Rams back in Los Angeles, running back Todd Gurley, defensive end Robert Quinn and cornerback E.J. Gaines are queued up for action after sitting out last week.Chiefs quarterback Nick Foles will get some time against his former team. Benched as the Rams starter last year, Foles signed with Kansas City two weeks ago to back up Alex Smith.EXPERIMENTING WITH EIGHTThe NFL, as it did in the second week of last years preseason games, will experiment with an eighth on-field official. The league has used seven-person officiating crews since 1978, when the side judge was added. The middle judge will be 20 yards downfield, focusing on the center and guards with an emphasis on spotting defensive holding penalties.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and Twitter: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

Res Judicata won the third stakes of his career and his first since the fall of 2013 in the Grade 3 Salvator Mile at Monmouth Park on Saturday.Res Judicatas career almost came to an end on Sept. 20, 2014, when he was involved in a training accident at Parx Racing. On the morning of the 2014 Pennsylvania Derby, Res Judicata and his exercise rider, Lisa Whitaker, were standing in the vicinity of the quarter pole at Parx when they were broadsided by a runaway horse.Res Judicata didnt race again until June 2015. Whitaker still deals with the injuries she sustained that day.Res Judicata is trained by John Servis and was bred and is owned by Patricia Chapman, who along with her late husband, Roy, raced Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones, the sire of Res Judicata.Coming into the Salvator Mile, Res Judicata had gone 1 for 8 during his comeback, with his lone win coming in a one-mile optional-claiming race at Aqueduct last fall. The field for the $96,000 Salvator Mile scratched down from six horses to four, and lost its chief speed, Green Gratto, on race day. When the gates opened, jockey Nik Juarez put Res Judicata right on the lead and they clipped off splits of 23.76 and 47.31 seconds while under light pressure from 4-5 favorite Mr. Jordan. Res Judicata drew clear on the far turn while covering six furlongs in 1:10.94, and won by 3-3/4 lengths under strong handling from Juarez.Allied Air Raid, who stumbled at the start and then was brushed by Mr. Jordan entering the first turn, finished second. It was two lengths farther back in third to Mr. Jordan.Res Judicata paid $18 as by far the longest price in the field. He completed the mile in 1:36.07.The plan was just to keep his face clean, Juarez said after the race.Res Judicata was saddled by Serviss son, Tyler, his Monmouth assistant trainer. The last time we ran him this distance he got brave and he won, Tyler Servis said.Res Judicata, 6, is now 9 for 25 in his career with earnings of $432,340. His prior stakes wins came in the City of Laurel Stakes in Maryland and the Christopher Else Memorial, a South Carolina residency stakes, in 2012. Jordan Willis . Those lessons were more than enough to overwhelm the Utah Jazz. Lou Williams scored 25 points and the Hawks continued their offensive upswing as they rolled to an easy 118-85 victory over the Jazz on Friday night, winning their third straight and for the fourth time in five games. The Real Madrid forward has scored 66 goals in 2013, but the last three may be the boost he needs to upstage Messi after FIFA unexpectedly extended the voting period for the Ballon dOr to Nov. LAS VEGAS -- The New England Patriots stayed atop the NFL Vegas Rankings, but the Seattle Seahawks closed the gap, while the Dallas Cowboys continue their rise. The Patriots were rated 4 points higher than the Seahawks last week in our panels power ratings -- which are compiled by taking the average of the power ratings of ESPN Chalk handicappers, including Erin Rynning and yours truly, and ESPNs Football Power Index -- so it wasnt too shocking that the Patriots were favored by 7.5 with home-field advantage. But after the Seahawks went into New England and won 31-24, the Patriots are now just 2.5 points ahead of the Seahawks and the line would clearly be under a touchdown if they were to play the game agaiin (or around a field goal if meeting on a neutral field).ddddddddddddRemember, the main purpose of the NFL Vegas Rankings is to use the power ratings to compare two teams as if they were to meet on a neutral field (after which most teams get 2.5 points for home-field advantage) and can be used to compare to the current point spread. Weve also added the FPI and Massey-Peabody rankings to our chart for comparative purposes.Heres a look at the teams making the biggest moves up and down the rankings, and then well look for some Week 11 value plays using this weeks power ratings: ' ' '

MANCHESTER, England -- Hes the accidental challenger with a checkered boxing record who, away from the ring, teaches kids with special educational needs at a high school.Eric Molina, in many ways, is an improbable contender for the world heavyweight title. The American was a late call-up to fight IBF champion Anthony Joshua after the British boxers proposed super-fight with Wladimir Klitschko failed to be approved in time. The experts see Molina as the latest fodder for Joshua on his inexorable rise to the top of the heavyweight division, where hes won all 17 of his professional fights by knockout. But it might be unwise to write off Molina ahead of Saturdays fight in Manchester, northern England.Molina prides himself on his ability to bounce back from adversity, and hes had plenty of that in a boxing career that began only in 2006. A strong all-round sportsman, especially at baseball, he was studying at college and working in a restaurant when he decided to give boxing a try.He lost in a first-round knockout on his pro debut in 2007, and again in 2012 when Chris Arreolo brutally ended Molinas run of 18 wins. A third career loss came last year against WBC champion Deontay Wilder in Molinas only previous shot at a world title.Still, he came back for more, and beating Polands Tomasz Adamek in Krakow with a 10th-round knockout earned Molina the vacant IBF intercontinental title. When talks with Klitschko broke down, Joshuas team turned to Molina.I started my career 0-1, so of course Im the underdog, Molina told The Associated Press in a Manchester hotel on Thursday. To get here, Ive busted all the underdog odds.Ive been down and Ive regrouped. ... Now I want to shake the world.Theres more to Molina than boxing. In 2012, he got a masters degree in special education from the University of Texas at Brownsville, and teaches in a school in Edinburg. He hasnt worked at the school since last summer to fully focus on boxing but plans to return, perhaps next August. They have a couple of strikes against them in their lifetime already, Richard Molina, Erics father, told the AP about his sons students, so he decided if he can help each one of them and make their lives better, thats what he does.It makes him unique (as a boxer). His humbleness will never fade. That humbleness extends to the boxing ring. Hes not one for trash talk before and after fights, and treats his opponents with respect. He turned up to Thursdays prefight news conference looking sharply dressed, wearing a waistcoat and a bow tie.Joshua is making the second defense of the IBF title he won in April by beating Charles Martin in London. He beat Dominic Breazeale in June, also in the British capital, after being taken seven rounds -- his longest fight since turning pro in 2012 after winning an Olympic gold medal in London that year.Joshua has barely been tested as a pro but most are in agreement that Molina is a credible challenger, and Joshuas most dangerous fight to date.Weve specifically trained to land the knockout shot, Molina said, when asked how he has prepared for the fight. Theres nothing else weve worked on, other than landing that shot. That one big punch is his calling card. Against Wilder, it was a clean left hook that wobbled the champion in his home state of Alabama, but Molina couldnt follow it up and was knocked out in the ninth round.Molina described Wilder as the best heavyweight in the world right now. Joshua, with his chiseled physique and ferocious punching power, might have something to say about that, although theres a sense that he still has something to prove. The fight with Klitschko has finally been sanctioned by the WBA for next year, but he said he will not be looking beyond Molina.People were asking me 12 months ago, 18 months ago, when you going to fight this guy and that guy? Joshua said. I said, `Give me 12, 18 months, and thats now.Everyone is here because there is the potential of me taking a loss. Thats the heavyweight division.Joshua, though, promised to make Eric look like a novice, and it will be a big shock if the Briton loses in front of 21,000 spectators at Manchester Arena. Even Molina said hell need to be lucky to win but believes his back-story gives him strength and hope.Anthony Joshuas at the point in his career where he needs to get tested, Molina said. Hes hitting that time of his career where hes going to have to start facing situations he hasnt faced before. LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada State Athletic Commission has fined UFC star Conor McGregor $150,000 for his actions during a UFC 202 news conference in August. The fine represents 5 percent of the record-$3 million purse McGregor received for his majority decision against Nate Diaz on Aug. 20 at T-Mobile Arena. The NSAC also ordered 50 hours of community service. The punishment was passed unanimously.McGregor has the right to appeal, but that seems unlikely based on his comments. The Irishman attended the disciplinary hearing via phone and admitted his actions during the news conference were wrong and that he would learn from that. That didnt mean he was happy with it, as he indicated on Twitter. When asked by NSAC commissioner Pat Lundvall if he acknowledged a need for discipline on the matter, McGregor responded: Yes, 100 percent. I acknowledge that. The $150,000 fine will be split in half between the states general fund and an anti-bullying campaign, which McGregor and his attorney proposed during the hearing. McGregor is also responsible for hearing fees.?The attorney generals office initially asked the commission consider a $25,000 fine, however the majority of commission members felt that amount would not have an impact on McGregor.During fight week of UFC 202 in Las Vegas, McGregor and Diaz gave the event a huge boost by getting into it during a pre-fight news conference Aug. 17. After McGregor showed up 30 minutes late, Diaz elected to get up and leave early. As he exited the theater, Diaz started to taunt McGregor verbally.Videos show Diaz then throwing a water bottle in McGregors dirrection.dddddddddddd McGregor responded by grabbing bottles and cans from the stage and returning fire. Security and UFC officials eventually restored order.According to the Nevada attorney generals office, one MGM security officer sustained a minor injury from a can that was thrown by McGregor.NSAC commissioner Michon Martin said the public safety issue was her biggest concern, as the news conference was open to the public. Martin originally proposed a fine of 10 percent of McGregors purse, or $300,000 -- which is the percentage the NSAC fined Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier two years ago for a brawl in the MGM Lobby.Ultimately, that figure was seen as too high. McGregors $3 million purse broke the previous record of $2.5 million for a disclosed fight purse in mixed martial arts history.I have a really hard time with a $300,000 fine for throwing a water bottle, said NSAC chairman, Anthony Marnell. Yes, someone could have gotten seriously hurt. No one did. Yes, they could have set the building on fire. They didnt. They were throwing cans at each other like children.McGregor is scheduled to face Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in New York. He mentioned during his comments on Monday that he is in deep preparation for the fight.Diaz, whose purse for the event was $2 million, has yet to appear before the commission for his disciplinary hearing. He was originally scheduled to do so on Monday, but he was granted a continuance. ' ' '

Heres what you get for $75,000 on a Sunday in September at Los Alamitos: five 3-year-old fillies going six furlongs from the stables of Richard Mandella, Bob Baffert, Doug ONeill, John Sadler, and Phil DAmato, who is fresh from his first Del Mar summer training title. For $75,000, you get from the DAmato barn the unbeaten and untested Enola Gray, who appears to have more upside than Mount Everest and whose lip tattoo reads Freak. You get the Claiborne Farm filly Bendable, an exciting late bloomer like Enola Gray; the $775,000 Tapit filly Jade Princess, who knows what its like to chase Songbird and Carina Mia, so Enola Gray should be no shock; and the $630,000 Twirling Candy filly Uptown Twirl, who won the Surfside Stakes over the course and distance last April. For $75,000, you get all this, plus the name of Beverly J. Lewis attached, which is more than most races deserve and worth at least another zero in the purse. The Lewis name should ring bells forever. Beverly and her husband, the late Robert B. Lewis, made Thoroughbred racing history as partners in the most famous California-based stable of the 1990s. Their Oregon University green-and-gold colors were flown high, far and wide, attached to some of the most exciting performers of the era. The Robert B. Lewis Stakes is a major 3-year-old event each winter at Santa Anita.Twenty years ago, Serenas Song was nearing the end of her remarkable run for the Lewises and trainer D. Wayne Lukas. At 2, she won the Oak Leaf, the Starlet, and came within a head of winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies. At 3, the daughter of Rahy beat the boys in the Jim Beam and the Haskell. At age 4, Serenas Song started 15 times at nine different tracks, won from seven to nine furlongs, and came within a neck of beating males again in the Whitney. Her career totals read 38 starts, 18 wins, and another 11 seconds for earnings of nearly $3.3 million. After that, it seemed silly to wait five years for Serenas Song to take her place in the Hall of Fame, but there she was in 2002, her first year of eligibility. In March 1996 at Parrish Hill Farm in Kentucky, a chestnut son of Summer Squall was delivered to the Drone mare Bali Babe. The Lewises bought him for $200,000 as a weanling and named him for each other. Anyway, that was the joke. Charismatic went on to win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness before suffering a career-ending injury while attempting to win the Triple Crown in the Belmont, finishing third on three legs. For his bravery as much as his record, Charismatic was crowed 1999 Horse of the Year. There were scads of others. The Lewises were part of the group that raced champion and Preakness winner Timber Country. They raced the hotshot 2-year-old Hennessy, better known these days as the sire of Beholder. They won Breeders Cup races with champions Folklore and Orientate.Sunday also marks the 20th anniversary of the Del Mar Futurity victory of Silver Charm, not a bad way to celebrate the Beverly Lewis Stakes. Trained by Baffert, Silver Charm went on to win the 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness, along with an Eclipse Award as 3-year-old male champion. At 4, he won a thrilling rendition of the Dubai World Cup and later that year finished a close second in the Breeders Cup Classic. In 2007, Silver Charm joined Serenas Song in the Hall of Fame.Anyone can visit Silver Charm at Old Friends Equine in Kentucky, where he holds court as, quite literally, an equine eminence grise. Charismatic is a stallion in Japan and has a ticket already stamped to come home anytime he wants.Serenas Song has been retired as a broodmare after producing seven stakes winners. Her genetic legacy lives on and in large part keeps the Lewis brand alive in the game. She had the good sense to give us fillies with her last three foals, said Jeff Lewis, Robert and Beverlys son, who manages the familys Thoroughbred interests. One of those daughters is Night and Day, whose second foal, Made You Look, won the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga and is aiming toward the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. The Lewises sold him for $360,000 as a yearling.Mom also has four horses training in Kentucky with Charlie LoPresti, Jeff Lewis noted. California was proving a little too tough for our fillies. But we sure hope to have that big horse again someday to be able to run there. The Lewis impact was considerable. Beyond their racing stable, Robert Lewis served as president of the Thoroughbred Owners of California and was on the board of the Oak Tree Racing Association, while Beverly has been on the board of the Edwin J. Gregson Foundation. Together, the Lewises were presented with the 1997 Eclipse Award of Merit, the only husband-and-wife team ever so honored.Though Beverly Lewis lives not far from Los Alamitos in Newport Beach, her health precludes her attendance on Sunday, while Jeff Lewis is traveling.Im sorry to say we wont be there, but our thoughts certainly will be with those running in the Beverly Lewis, he said. Its a great tribute to my mom and dad from a sport they loved so much. Lonnie Shelton Jersey . American Matt Kuchar, ahead by two strokes with four to play and even with Scott with one to go, double-bogeyed the 18th after taking two shots to get out of a bunker. It is the year that Australian football went mad. Tell anyone a fortnight ago that mighty Hawthorn were to trade out Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis, first and second in Crimmins Medal voting in 2016, for a few pieces of silver in the form of draft picks, and you would have been certified. The fans did not even have the chance to say goodbye to a couple of iconic, multiple premiership heroes, so little wonder many of them are shifting about uncomfortably as the AFLs trade period winds to its end.Meanwhile Alastair Clarkson, the Hawthorn coach, has some explaining to do, a point the debate will inevitably reach. Hawthorn have been nothing if not pragmatic and upfront, clearly identifying their list was well off the pace in 2016, despite the top-four finish, and that changes were needed to make room for Jaeger OMeara, Tom Mitchell and Ty Vickery to join the club. But it has shaken the game to its core. Now for perspective: this is part of professional sport. Ask the Adelaide folk how they felt about Patrick Dangerfield winning a Brownlow Medal in blue and white this year, for instance, and that is before you even consider the rest of the world. In truth, we are miles behind the English Premier League or the American professional sports for levels of callous moving of players, although that is the direction we may well take.Is it actually good for footy to see Mitchell, king of the nifty sidestep and slick handball, and Lewis, the bulldozing left-footer, leave a club like Hawthorn? Surely not. Was it good for the game that Steve Johnson, James Kelly and Paul Chapman, Geelongs premiership superstars, had to play out their careers elsewhere when the Cats went in a different direction, or that Jimmy Bartel will be pushed into retirement this week, just as Brent Harvey was by North Melbourne? It is the $10 million salary cap that causes the issue, along with the widely-held belief that success in the AFL comes around in cycles. As Scott Watters, the former St Kilda coach, observed this week, any player now knows he is at the whim of the cycle. ANY player indeed, if you remember that Mitchell is an all-time greaat Hawthorn and AFL player, a walk-up Hall-of-Famer.ddddddddddddBut there is a solution right before the AFLs eyes, a feel-good compromise that has been tried before. The veterans list was a fabulous rule introduced a few years ago, initially allowing clubs to nominate one long-term player on their lists so only half of his salary was included in the cap, then tweaked over time to allow an unlimited number of veterans, then watered down more recently so that clubs only have to include a percentage of their salary in their total player payments figures.Instead of diluting this rule, the AFL could have made it stronger, more definitive. It is the rule that might stop us heading down the path of the big professional sports elsewhere, for just because something happens in another country does not make it right. We dont want Moneyball; we dont want players dehumanised, and clubs that draw zero loyalty from their employees.Twelve year, one-club players should have their salaries excluded from the salary cap as iconic players. This would mean, for instance at Hawthorn, that Mitchell, Lewis and Luke Hodge would not be under the scrutiny they have been under this year. Their salaries would be outside the cap and it would at least give a Hawthorn the chance to ride out the end of those great careers. There would be no real advantage to a club with a cluster of great veterans because if they hold on too long, they run the risk of failing to regenerate the list. But at least it gives them a chance to provide something of a farewell tour for their greatest players, for the fans to wave goodbye.Footy is not a business, despite what people say. Its like a business, but in business, your aim is profit, and your ambition is to crush the opposition and create a monopoly. In footy, everyone needs opposition to play against, no matter how bitter the rivalries. There must be room for romance, an explanation for the kid with the No. 5 Sam Mitchell guernsey who cannot work it all out this week. HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Joey Logano leaned in toward Jimmie Johnson and offered a few words of comfort. At least we all sucked, Logano said. The four NASCAR Sprint Cup championship drivers all failed to get that one final boost they needed to better position themselves to win it all Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.Logano, Carl Edwards, 2015 Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch and Johnson all will start outside the top five. Busch will start ninth, Edwards 10th, Logano 13th and Johnson 14th. Johnson would match Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Richard Petty for the NASCAR record with his seventh career Cup championship.I dont think any of us want to start that far back, Edwards said. But they are bunched close enough that one TV camera can probably catch them all as they head into the first turn on the 1.5-mile track. Busch started third in the finale last season, won the race and his first career Cup title. The foursome likely wont lag behind the front of the field for long. This is a place you can pass, Logano said. The highest-finishing driver among the four is the 2016 champion. Under the revamped Chase format, the Homestead winner the last two years won the championship.Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski, eliminated from title contention in earlier rounds of NASCARs playoffs, played spoiler and swept the front row.I think weve been the two best cars all year, Keselowski said.Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., Matt Kenseth and Ryan Blaney all will start ahead of the championship drivers. The drivers out of the championship picture traditionally part to let the contenders race each other hard in the meat of the race. You get a little more respect from those guys, Busch said.Amid a heap of tributes, Tony Stewart starts 11th in the final race of his NASCAR career. Stewart is trying to race to his 50th career Cup victory and end a triumphant career in victory lane. There hasnt been any part of my career that I didnt enjoy, Stewart said. There are things about everything that Ive done that Ive liked more than others and disliked more than others. But as a whole, Ive enjoyed everything Ive done and the road that Ive taken to get here.Edwards and Busch are each vying to win a second straight championship for Joe Gibbs Racing. Johnson could bring a 12th title to Hendrick Motorsports. Logano wants to reward Roger Penskes 50th season in racing with another championship.Asked what keeps him going after all these years, Penske quipped, Trying to beat these guys.Harvick, the 2014 Homestead winner and Cup champion, won his second pole of the season. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver could also deliver a victory celebration for Stewart.Johnson was antsy to chase history.Qualifying isnt my strong suit, Im much better at racing, he said. So lets line them up and go racing. Nike China Jerseys . Cote was eligible to become a free agent Feb. 15. Stitched China Jerseys . Coach Mike Munchak says Fokou stretched ligaments in his left knee Oct. 13 against Seattle, which could keep out up to five weeks even though the linebacker didnt need surgery.BALTIMORE -- Both teams were outstanding defensively. The pitching was sharp, too. A well-played game between the Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles was ultimately turned on one swing by Nick Markakis, who has made a habit of delivering the big hit in pressure situations this season. Miguel Gonzalez allowed one run over eight innings and Markakis hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the seventh inning to give Baltimore a 3-2 victory Tuesday night. Light-hitting Ryan Flaherty contributed two well-timed hits for the Orioles, whose third straight victory put them a season-high nine games over .500 (37-28). Baltimore will seek to complete a three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon. With the score tied at 1, the Orioles used two-out infield hits by Danny Valencia, Steve Pearce and Flaherty to load the bases in the seventh. Left-hander Scott Downs was then brought in to face Markakis, who lined a single to centre for a 3-1 lead. "You want to be in those situations," said Markakis, whos now batting .346 with 10 RBIs when there are two outs and runners in scoring position. "Ive faced Downs enough to know what hes going to do up there. He tries to sink the ball in on leftys hands and he does a good job of it. I was just looking for a ball up in the zone. "Anything up that I could reach, I was swinging. He left one up over the plate, I put a good swing on it and we scored two runs." Markakis also made two fine plays in right field, third baseman Manny Machado made several fine pickups and first baseman Chris Davis snagged a smoking line drive that began an unassisted double play. But Angels centre fielder Peter Bourjos made the defensive play of the night, robbing J.J. Hardy of a two-run homer in the first inning. After retreating toward the warning track, Bourjos pressed his body against the wall with a perfectly timed leap, stuck his glove well over the 7-foot barrier and caught the ball. "When fans come to a game, thats what they expect -- good defence, hitting and good pitching," Markakis said. "You saw that tonight, and it was a good ballgame." Especially for the Orioles. Los Angeles lost its fourth in a row despite getting a solid outing from left-hander Jason Vargas and a home run by Mike Trout that travelled an estimated 448 feet. "Both guys were throwing the ball well," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I really liked the way Jason Vargas pitched tonight. Three infield hhits in the seventh inning kind of set the table for them and they got the big hit from Markakis.dddddddddddd" Vargas (5-4) allowed three runs, seven hits and a walk in 6 2-3 sharp innings. The loss ended the left-handers five-game winning streak -- a run that started with a shutout of Baltimore on May 3. "That happens when you leave runners on base," Vargas said. "Granted, the balls werent hit that well." Howie Kendrick had two hits for Los Angeles, which has dropped nine of 11. Gonzalez (4-2) gave up four hits, walked one and struck out five. Jim Johnson got two outs in the ninth before Josh Hamilton doubled and scored on a single by Albert Pujols. Johnson then struck out Mark Trumbo to earn his 23rd save, and third in three games. Poised to throw his first career complete game, Gonzalez was removed by manager Buck Showalter after throwing 96 pitches. Asked if he wanted to go nine innings, Gonzalez said, "That would have been fun. But Buck knows what hes doing, and J.J. did a good job finishing the game." Trout put the Angels up 1-0 in the fourth with his 12th home run, the second in two nights. Its the ninth time in his career hes homered in successive games. In the bottom half, Hardy was thwarted in a second straight at-bat. After being victimized earlier by Bourjos, Hardy popped a foul toward the seats in left. As Trout prepared to make the catch, a fan wearing a Trout jersey stuck his glove in the way. The ball bounced off the fans mitt and landed on the ground, but third base umpire Joe West called Hardy out because of fan interference. Held to two hits through five innings, the Orioles pulled even in the sixth. No. 9 hitter Flaherty singled and Markakis followed with a single that momentarily handcuffed Bourjos for an error, putting runners at second and third. Manny Machado followed with an RBI grounder, providing Baltimore with its first run against Vargas in 15 innings this season. NOTES: Machado extended his hitting streak to nine games with a first-inning single before being picked off first base by Angels C Chris Iannetta. ... Baltimores Chris Davis ended an 0-for-16 skid with an infield hit in the first inning, although replays showed he was out at first. ... Jason Hammel (1-3, 7.33 ERA at home) starts for the Orioles in the series finale Wednesday. Jerome Williams will be on the mound for L.A. ... Trouts eight homers against Baltimore are his most against any opponent. ' ' '

KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Waves, wind and darkness hampered the ocean search off Hawaii for a Chinese man reported missing while attempting to set a sailing record, the U.S. Coast Guard pilot who was the missions air commander said Thursday. It was pretty frustrating not to find him, not to hear him, Lt. Ben Powers said at Air Station Barbers Point in west Oahu, the morning after the Coast Guard called off its search for Guo Chuan. The hardest thing we do is search for a person in the water because its a huge ocean.Chuan, 50, was attempting to set a sailing record from San Francisco to Shanghai. The search was suspended after a U.S. Navy crew from the USS Makin Island went aboard Guos 97-foot trimaran about 620 miles northwest of Oahu and found only his life jacket. As one of the pilots of one of the HC-130 Hercules planes that participated in the search, Powers spent hours scanning the ocean for Guo through 4-to-6-foot waves. There was no moon, he said, so illumination was low even with night-vision goggles.Rescuers radioed Guo every 15 to 30 minutes, Powers said. There was no response. When the persons in the water basically the only thing above the water is the persons head, Powers said. So thats really what were looking for -- something the size of a human head from an aircraft from 300 to 700 feet.Because Guos boat was well-tracked, rescuers had a good idea where he fell into the water, Powers said.Guo was a professional mariner with a deep passion for sailing. Our thanks to our Navy partners who helped us search for this vessel in a timely manner so far from shore in an attempt to locate Mr. (Guo) Chuan. Our deepest condolences go out not only to his family and friends but also to his racing team and the sailing community, said Capt. Robert Hendrickson, who directed the Coast Guards search.Guos sailboat, the Qingdao China, is adrift, and its main sail has been taken down, the Coast Guard said. The Coast Guard says it broadcast a warning to mariners to beware of the drifting boat.Guos racing team plans to recover the sailboat, the Coast Guard said.Guo was the first Chinese person to sail around the world in 2013, according to his website, guochuanracing.com.Guo left San Francisco on Oct. 18 to challenge the solo nonstop trans-Pacific world record. The current speed record for that journey is 21 days, and he was trying to sail from San Francisco to Shanghai within 20 days, the website says.In Beijing, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Chinas consulate general in Los Angeles had alerted the U.S. Coast Guard in Hawaii when it learned that Guo could not be reached. Spokesman Lu Kang said Chinese diplomats had helped in the coordination of the search and continued to monitor the situation.---Follow Jennifer Sinco Kelleher at http://www.twitter.com/JenHapa. Yorkshire 256 for 9 (Lyth 88, Coles 3-39) beat Kent 245 (Stevens 54, Blake 50, Plunkett 4-52, Willey 3-34) by 11 runsScorecardThere is an old cricketing saw that if you want to know how good a pitch is, you need to wait until both sides have batted on it. Like most proverbs, this is a useful saying only when used carefully; trotted out uncritically, it is tripe. This close and noble match, which ended with Yorkshire looking forward to a home semi-final against Surrey, illustrated the point.Between the two innings, as a St Lawrence ground which had brimmed with afternoon sunshine gave itself over to the gentler grace of evening, Kents supporters had reason to be optimistic. A Yorkshire side containing seven Test cricketers had managed no more than 256 in their 50 overs, a good score to be sure but self-evidently not the 300-plus the home fans may have feared.Kent skipper, Sam Northeast, may even have half toyed with notions of a Lords final. That would have capped a great season for the still youthful-looking Northeast, who has scored runs for the fun of doing so in the Championship. He has also been appointed club captain in succession to the slightly aldermanic figure of Rob Key. Sam Weller has taken over from Mr Pickwick.Eighteen overs into their innings the mood in the home dressing room was probably considerably less sanguine. Although 64 runs had been scored, four prime wickets had been lost, including that of Daniel Bell-Drummond, leg before to a David Willey yorker in the second over and Sam Billings, lbw on the front foot to Steve Patterson when he had made a mere single. Sandwiched between these dismissals, Northeast had gone, too, when he chipped a catch to Gary Ballance at midwicket. Thus did one Old Harrovian send another packing, although this very posh dismissal was moderated a little by the involvement of the bowler, Liam Plunkett, he of Nunthorpe Comprehensive. Maybe we should have known then that it would be Plunketts night, just as it had been against Essex at the same stage of the same competition a year earlier. Faced with Kents grim situation, Darren Stevens and Alex Blake resolved to die with their boots on and their magazines empty, if necessary. The fifth-wicket pair took 61 runs off the next seven overs, most of the damage being done to the spinners, Adil Rashid and Azeem Rafiq, both of whom were lifted for sixes into the crowd sitting in front of the mustard-coloured crane on the Old Dover Road side of the ground. The pair had added 86 in 13 overs when Blake was caught behind by Jonny Bairstow for 50 when attempting to pull a bouncer from Plunkett but only edging a catch. Nevertheless, the later Kent batsmen took their cue from this stand and it needed some outstanding cricket from Plunkett to prevent them winning the game.Northeasts men needed 109 off 20 overs when Blake was out and the rate was not to drop much above or below five an over for the rest of the innings. Crucially, of course, though, wickets were to fall, the first of them that of Stevens, whose leading edge was clutched one-handed with supreme athleticism by the diving Plunkett. Will Gidman gave the same bowler a much easier return catch two overs later but Kent battled on and the crowd warmed to themMatt Coles took a four and two sixes off a Rafiq over before being stumped off a Rashid googly - his foot raised just for an instant, but exposed by Bairstows fast work.Charlie Hartley and James Tredwell maintained a rate of five an over and 37 were needed off the last 48 balls. YYorkshires bowlers became nervous, then irritated.dddddddddddd But with only 16 needed, Hartley was leg before to Rashid and his 29-run stand with the calm Tredwell was ended. Then a borderline lbw for Willey finally killed Kents chances when 12 runs were required, 13 balls were left and most in the 6000 capacity crowd were beginning to think that, just for once, hope was not going to betray them. All this floodlit tension followed a Yorkshire innings which had been dominated more by accumulation than the artillery which Blake and Coles favoured. Although Adam Lyth hit two fours and a straight six in his first 15 balls, the boundaries were not to flow with comparable frequency until the final over of the innings, when Rashid drove successive balls from Mitch Claydon to the Nackington Road for four and over midwicket for six. Claydon had been the early sufferer, too, when he pitched the ball up rather too far to Lyth, who rarely passes up such pleasant opportunities, especially when the deep field is as empty as a gamblers wallet. But this early fun more or less marked the end of the visitors big shots. After Alex Lees had pulled Claydon straight to Blake on the square leg boundary, Lyth and Joe Root added 90 for the second wicket in 19 overs by pushing the ball into gaps, working it around and scampering twos.Roots innings exemplified the few problems Yorkshires batsmen encountered on this pitch. Englands finest batsman is so well balanced at the crease that he is almost incapable of inelegance, yet the accuracy of the Kent attack and the apparent slowness of the wicket prevented him playing any of his straight drives or signature back-foot forces. Instead he and Lyth were content for the most part to milk Tredwell, the off-spinner conceding 52 runs off his ten overs.Root and Lyths partnership was by far the best of Yorkshires innings. Three other pairs added 27 runs apiece, a statistic which itself rather reveals the absence of rhythm in the visitors innings. The batsmens problems were caused - some would say merely exacerbated - by the accuracy of Kents bowling. The pick of the attack was the medium-pacer, Hartley, who was playing just his fourth List A game and will dine out on his removal of Root, well caught at deep midwicket by Blake for 45, and Bairstow, who drove too soon and chipped a catch to Bell-Drummond when he had only 9 to his name.Although Gidman later removed Tim Bresnan and Willey in the same over, the latter departing to a contentious leg-side catch by Billings when the ball appeared to have hit only the pad, the most successful Kent bowler was Coles. Like Chaucers Miller, a stout carl for the nones Coles has plenty of pace and perhaps more variations than is sometimes assumed. Ful byg…of brawn, and eek of bones he may be but there is craft there, too, and in this game, it was sufficient to account for Lyth for 88 when edging a drive and both Plunkett and Rafiq late in the piece. Coles finished with 3 for 39 and maybe he, too, was pondering spending a September Saturday in St Johns Wood as he ate his tea.Instead it will be Yorkshires players who have that chance when they play Surrey in a semi-final at Headingley a week on Sunday. Having set up one semi-final Lees and his players can now travel to Edgbaston to play in another. Kents players were left with deep disappointment and the ink-blue glory of a Canterbury night. ' ' '

LONDON -- Venus Williams has gotten this far before. Many times, in fact. Its just been a while. The five-time Wimbledon champion will be playing in the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the 12th time in her career, but the first time since 2010.Yeah, its been a few years. Missed a year or two, said Williams, who has been slowed in recent years by Sjogrens syndrome, a condition that can cause joint pain and saps energy. But Ive been here before. Im not, like, a deer in the headlights. The eighth-seeded Williams will take on Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan on Tuesday, a player she has never faced.Williams reached the quarterfinals by beating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 7-6 (3), 6-4, while Shvedova defeated 28th-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-4.Ive never played her, so well see how it goes, Williams said. First couple rounds were against players Ive never played. Its always interesting. You spend the first few games trying to figure out whats working, whats not working. It will definitely be that tomorrow. All four womens quarterfinals will be played Tuesday. In the other matches, its: Serena Williams vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova; Dominika Cibulkova vs. Elena Vesnina; and Angelique Kerber vs. Simona Halep. One more mens fourth-round match, between Tomas Berdych and Jiri Vesely, will also be completed after darkness suspended play on Monday.Shvedova will be playing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time, but she is part of history at the club after winning a golden set in 2012 -- taking every point in a set.Venus, however, is one of the most successful players in Wimbledon history. The 36-year-old American won her first title at the All England Club in 2000, and then added titles in 2001, `05, `07 and `08.She then reached the final in 2009, and the quarterfinals in 2010, but has struggled as the years have passed.I always want more. I want more out of myself, Venus said. For sure, I havent had an easy road, but a lot of people havent. I try not to think about those sorts of things. I try to think about what I can accomplish. Here are some other matches to watch at Wimbledon on Tuesday:SERENA WILLIAMS VS. ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHENKOVA: Serena Williams will be on court for the third straight day as she tries to win her 22nd Grand Slam title. The top-ranked Serena, the younger sister of Venus Williams, is 5-0 against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, but they have never met on grass.Weve had some tough matches in the past, Serena said. Ive lost to players thats never beaten me in the past in some big situations. I definitely dont want that to happen.DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA VS. ELENA VESNINA: With her wedding date in the balance, Dominika Cibulkova will face Elena Vesnina for a spot in the Wimbledon semifinals.Cibulkova had planned to get married on Saturday, the day of the womens final, but said if she wins on Tuesday she will postpone her wedding.Im just really happy right now with my tennis and with my private life, the 27-year-old Cibulkova said. You can see it on the court. We are still keeping this date. Well see whats going to happen.SIMONA HALEP VS. ANGELIQUE KERBER: Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber is one win away from matching her best performance at Wimbledon -- the 2012 semifinals. But Simona Halep, the 2014 French Open finalist, has been getting better on the grass at the All England Club, reaching the quarterfinals last year.I improved a lot in the last period. But grass always was a good surface for me, Halep said. I played well in 2014. I have great memories from here, and Im just trying to improve my game on every surface.TOMAS BERDYCH VS. JIRI VESELY: Tomas Berdych and Jiri Vesely will have to play the fifth set of their fourth-round match on Tuesday.Berdych, the 2010 runner-up at Wimbledon, had five match points in the fourth set, but Vesely forced the tiebreaker and evened the match on his seventh set point.Vesely won the first set 6-4, but Berdych won the next two 6-3, 7-6 (8). Vesely then won the fourth set 7-6 (9). Calgary Flames Shirts . Its sharpness matched my mind. This was no night to go to sleep. Flames Jerseys 2021 . The native of Mont-Tremblant, Que., captured a World Cup downhill event Saturday, his second this year and fifth career victory on the circuit. Lamar Jackson tends to steer clear of the mall these days.Never much for being the center of attention, at least off the field, Louisvilles star quarterback and Heisman Trophy front-runner says he has been laying even lower than usual because when he does go out he often draws crowds. When Im not at the stadium, Im in my room, Jackson said.Jackson has become one of college footballs most recognizable players the first two months of the season. He enters November as a prohibitive favorite to become Louisvilles first Heisman winner. The latest odds from online casino Bovada have Jackson as the 1/3 favorite ahead of Clemsons Deshaun Watson and Michigans Jabrill Peppers, who are both 9/2.After leading Louisville to a last-minute, game-winning touchdown against Virginia last Saturday, Jackson again received all seven first-place votes from a panel of AP sports writers in this weeks Heisman watch.Jackson was also not much for talking to the media last year as a freshman and he still doesnt have a lot to say during interviews. Just as he has worked to get better as a player, Jackson has also worked to become more comfortable being the face and voice of his team.He has the standard response to the Heisman questions down pat.We just try to win games, Jackson said during a conference call with reporters Monday. We dont really dwell on the Heisman and stuff like that. Dont get me wrong. Itll be a great thing if it comes to the program.Four more games of doing what hes done all season should do it for Jackson and the Cardinals.Heres how AP college football writers rank the Heisman contenders going into Week 10:1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville (21 points)Last week: Jackson threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns against Virginia, despite a bunch of dropped passes by his receivers and penalties by his line. Simply put, Louisville would have lost without him. This week: at Boston College. The Eagles have one of the better defenses in the country, allowing 4.93 yards per play. But against just Power Five opposition, that number jumps 6.26.2. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson (9 points)Last week: Watson threw for 378 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against Florida State. And again he was great late. This week: Syracuse. The Orange have the worst defense inn the ACC and allowed 610 total yards to Jackson in September.dddddddddddd3. Jake Browning, QB, Washington (5 points)Last week: Browning was solid (186 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception), not spectacular, in a victory against Utah. This week: at California. The Bears are 11th in the Pac-12 in defense (6.31 yards per play).4. Jabrill Peppers, LB, Michigan (4 points)Last week: Peppers ran for a touchdown, scored a defensive 2-point conversion, made seven tackles and had a sack in a win against Michigan State. This week: Maryland. Will Peppers get more than the six offensive touches he had last week?5. Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State (2 points)Last week: Cook had 169 yards rushing and four touchdowns on just 19 carries against Clemson. He is fourth in the nation in yards from scrimmage (180 per game). This week: at North Carolina State. The Wolfpack held up OK against Watson and not well at all against Jackson.6. Donnel Pumphrey, RB, San Diego State (1 point)Last week: Pumphrey ran for 223 yards, his fourth 200-yard game, against Utah State and is on pace for 2,203 yards in 12 games. That would be the fourth-best total in FBS history. And thats not counting a likely Mountain West title game and bowl. This week: Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors are 10th in the Mountain West in run defense and allow 5.4 yards per carry.Three more to watch:- Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU. He had only 31 yards on 19 carries against Alabama last season. If he can figure out the top-ranked Crimson Tide on Saturday, hell be back in the Heisman race.- J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State. He gets another prime-time game with No. 9 Nebraska coming to Columbus.- Jonathan Allen, DE, and Jalen Hurts, QB, Alabama. The big game could give a boost to either or both Tide stars.---Poll panel: AP Heisman watch panel: National Writer Paul Newberry, Georgia; Sports Writer Stephen Hawkins, Texas; Sports Writer John Marshall, Arizona; Sports Writer Joedy McCreary, North Carolina; Sports Writer Eric Olson, Nebraska; Sports Writer Steve Megargee, Tennessee; College Football Writer Ralph D. Robbie Henshaw will miss Irelands final autumn Test against Australia after suffering concussion during Saturdays encounter with New Zealand, with Irish bosses branding the disciplinary fall-out from the Dublin clash disappointing.Ireland team manager Mick Kearney confirmed the citing officer raised 12 incidents -- 11 relating to New Zealand -- from Saturdays gruelling Test, where the All Blacks prevailed 21-9.New Zealand flanker Sam Cane faces a disciplinary hearing for his hit that left Henshaw concussed, for which referee Jaco Peyper only awarded a penalty. All Blacks centre Malakai Fekitoa also faces a disciplinary hearing over his high tackle on Simon Zebo, for which he received just a yellow card. The evidence is fairly clear that Robbie took a shoulder to the jaw, which knocked him unconscious before he hit the ground, Kearney said. He came in [on Monday] morning to see the doctor and has since gone home. The citing officer picked out 12 incidents during the game; 11 of them referred to New Zealand. The one that referred to us was a clean-out of Sam Cane at a ruck and we were cleared of any foul play in that incident. It is disappointing, to be honest. There were a number of tackles and bangs around the head. We received the edict from World Rugby in the last week or 10 days and Joe [Schmidt, Ireland head coach] would have sat the squad down, and shown them the varrious footage, including examples of tackles around the head and neck area.dddddddddddd.World Rugby had said if these incidents occur then you are liable to a red card, possibly. So that obviously didnt happen at the weekend. The games governing body World Rugby would certainly suffer some embarrassment if one or both All Black stars faces a retrospective suspension, carrying with it the acceptance that red cards should have been issued on the night.Feikota claimed two tries, including the decisive score, in Dublin. If he is now found guilty of an alleged dangerous tackle at his disciplinary hearing he could face a suspension. Cane is in the same situation for his challenge on Henshaw.?The facts speak for themselves, Kearney added. We dont cite anybody. We dont make complaints to the citing officer because they have the angles to look at the game.Henshaw heads Irelands lengthy injury list, with fly-half Johnny Sexton also ruled out of Saturdays Australia clash while several others are doubts.CJ Stander and Rob Kearney must both undergo the HIA process and return-to-play protocols after showing signs of concussion.Zebo suffered from cramp but is expected to return to train later this week, as are Peter OMahony, Keith Earls and Ultan Dillane. Nike on Tuesday unveiled a speed system for its track and field athletes who will compete at Augusts Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. While innovation in shoes and apparel were expected, the brand gave a preview of three significant advances in technology that arent typically part of a uniform unveil. The first is adhesive tape with silicon-based spikes called AeroBlades that runners will be instructed to wear on various parts of their bodies, depending on event, to help cut wind resistance or aerodynamic drag. The distance between the AeroBlades is also different, depending on what part of the body they are placed. Nike arrived at the shape of the blades by using a 3-D printer to build prototypes and testing hundreds of different shapes in a wind tunnel. We were tasked to combat the enemy of fast and deliver on the athletes desire to look fast, feel fast and be fast, said?Martin?Lotti, Nikes vice president and creative director for categories and concepts. The second innovation are new sunglasses called the Nike Wing that are also meant to cut through the wind, ensuring they a performance enhancer and not a hindrance. In order to do that, Nike used a single piece of glass without hinges -- which typically let air through. Lotti said the lenses only let red light through, which provides a calming effect to the runner. Company officials said the sunglasses weigh 4 grams less than traditional eyewear. The third innovation is a breathable, adhesive race bib called the AeroSwift Bib, with a peel back that can be stuck directly onto the uniform. We spent all this time developing aerodynamic elements to a uniform, and then we would pin our bibs on with safety pins that were invented in 1849, Lotti said. It made no sense.Lotti said Nike tested every condition possible in Rio to make sure that the bibs would not come off in any situation, including extreme heat and pouring rain.Lotti said the unbranded AeroBlades will be available even to track athletes who dont have a contract with Nike. All three innovations were approved by the International Olympic Committee. Rashan Gary Jersey Large . JOHNS, N. MIAMI -- Clayton Richard overcame a shaky start for his best performance of the season.Richard pitched a season-high seven innings to help the San Diego Padres beat the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak. He was outstanding, Padres manager Andy Green said. The sinker worked really well today. He is getting better. Command wavered a little bit the first time. After that he really locked it in.Richard (1-3) allowed eight hits and walked one. He struck out three and threw 63 of 94 pitches for strikes.I got into a good rhythm, Richard said. (Derek Norris) was so good behind the plate. I was able to really on him--the combination of that and our defense playing so well. They made a couple of good plays. When you have that type of defense and (Ryan) Schimpf in the lineup, its usually a good thing.Ryan Schimpf homered homered in the fourth inning off Jose Urena (2-5). Schimpf also homered Friday night and has 16 this season -- all since July 1.Its kind of been like that since I was little, Schimpf said about his power. I dont know why. I couldnt explain. Ive had a lot of good coaches along the way to help me out for sure. Right now its staying within the approach and get a good pitch when you want.Kevin Quackenbush worked the ninth, striking out two for his first save since Sept. 22, 2014, against Colorado.Quacks got a little heartbeat, Green said. He is who hes going to be every single time out. He executed his pitches after going 2 and 0 to Ichiro (Suzuki). The rest of the inning was very smooth for him.Martin Prado had four hits for the fourth time this season.Urena (2-5) allowed one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.I tried to keep the ball down and that was a pretty good game, Urena said.Prado led off the eighth with a hit off Jose Dominguez. Dee Gordon pinch-ran for Prado and was stranded at second after Brad Hand relieved Dominguez and retired the next three batters.dddddddddddd.The Marlins had two hits in the first and three in the second, but no runs to show for it. Robert Andino grounded out to Richard with the bases loaded in the second to end the threat.Obviously those are opportunities you hope that they dont come back and get you later and obviously tonight in a 1-0 game you think about those, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.Miami was 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base while getting shut-out for the sixth time in their last 32 games.TRAINERS ROOMMarlins: RHP Andrew Cashner (blister) will be scratched from Sundays start and LHP Justin Nicolino will take his place after being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans. Cash has that little finger thing and it didnt seem to want to--we were hoping it would heal and it just stayed tender and wasnt able to get it to where we needed to go, Mattingly said. ... 2B Dee Gordon was held out of the starting lineup for the second straight game for rest. Gordon was held out Friday, but ended up going 0 for 3 after entering the game in the sixth. I felt like he was tired going into the game yesterday and then he ends up getting three at-bats, playing a lot of it and I felt like with a day game tomorrow I want him in there for sure, Mattingly said. I dont think he was very happy, but if that had been a normal game last night he would be in there today.UP NEXTPadres: RHP Luis Perdomo (6-7, 6.24) will start Sundays series finale. Perdomo tied a career high with seven innings in his last start against Arizona allowing one run.Marlins: LHP Justin Nicolino (2-5, 5.57) will take Andrew Cashners spot in the rotation and make his 13th start of the season, first since July 6. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels has been named the American League MVP.The announcement was made on MLB Network after voting from members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts finished second, and Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was third.Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be the best player in everything I did, didnt matter what sport, Trout said in an ESPN interview after being named MVP. But obviously, you work hard just to be in the conversation. There are a lot of great players across the country, across the world, that youre playing against each and every day. [You] put your mindset to that, just to work hard and be the best.At just 25 years old, Trout now has his second MVP award -- he won his first in 2014. Trout is the sixth player to win two MVPs before the age of 26, according to Elias. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- UConns winning streak remains alive, just barely.Napheesa Collier scored 28 points and had a big block down in the final few seconds to lead the third-ranked Huskies to a 78-76 win over No. 12 Florida State on Monday night. UConn extended its winning streak to 76 games, the third longest streak in college basketball history.Florida State had a chance to beat the third-ranked Huskies at the end, but Imani Wrights 3-pointer was short allowing the four-time defending national champions to hold on in their opener. There are a lot of happy coaches that watched tonights game saying you got out of there with that one but your time is coming, coach Geno Auriemma said. This is the Huskies first single-digit win in the regular season since a six-point victory over St. Johns in 2013. It is also the first time since the 2011 Sweet 16 against Georgetown (68-63) that they have won by five points or less. The Seminoles trailed 65-59, but had a chance to tie it with 13.7 seconds left when Brittany Brown was fouled on a 3-point attempt by Kia Nurse. She made the first two to get within 77-76, but missed the third. The Huskies could not secure the ball and FSU (1-1) retained possession when it went out of bounds.Shakayla Thomas then drove the lane, but her shot was blocked Collier. Crystal Dangerfield made the first free throw, but missed the second. Imani Wright missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.I think this kind of woke us up and showed us that we are a different team than last year. We cant just win on talent. We have to play good, fundamental basketball, said Collier, who also had eight rebounds.Saniya Chong scored 16 points and Katie Lou Samuelson added 14 for the Huskies, whose winning streak sits only behind the team record of 90 straight set from 2008-10 and the UCLA mens record of 88 consecutive victories.Wright led Florida State with 25 points while Brown added 16 points and 10 rebounds.I wish we were sitting here obviously on the other side of this having won it, Florida State coach Sue Semrau said. We gave ourselves a chance. We got the ball into two great scorers at the end. Theres no moral victory here. The victory is our growth as our basketball tteam.ddddddddddddIG PICTUREUConn: Auriemma said before the game that this was a new world they were entering after the graduations of Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson. He also said he wasnt going to judge this team based on what happened in November, but considering they were able to hold on to win at the road, that has to give his team a little bit of confidence.Florida State: The Seminoles hung tough without starting point guard Leticia Romero, who missed her second straight game with a hamstring injury.TURNING POINTThe Huskies trailed by four at halftime and then were down 37-30 with 9:08 remaining in the third quarter, which is the largest deficit they have faced during the winning streak. They then went on a 14-2 run to take a five-point lead. The Seminoles would tie it three more times in the second half but could never take the lead.Collier and Chong each scored four points during the run while Samuelson had a 3-pointer at the end.It was a miracle we were down four at halftime. They (Florida State) got everything they wanted in the first half. If we were down 14 that might have been the end, Auriemma said.STAT OF THE NIGHTFlorida State had 16 offensive rebounds but could rarely convert as it was 26 of 72 from the field. That translated to UConn having a 30-24 edge in points in the paint and 12-7 advantage in second-chance points.POLL IMPLICATIONSUConns tough week will continue with second-ranked Baylor up next on Thursday and another road game Sunday against LSU. Florida State might drop a spot or two from 12th, but proved it can stand with the best teams in the country.UP NEXTUConn: The Huskies will have their home opener on Thursday against No. 2 Baylor. UConn is 53-10 against teams in the top 10 since the start of 2008-09 season.Florida State: The Seminoles continue a string of four straight home games to start the season on Thursday against Jacksonville.---More AP college basketball at http://collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25---Follow Joe Reedy on Twitter at www.twitter.com/joereedy ' ' '

TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays had a long players-only meeting before the game, but came up short again when it counted. After meeting behind closed doors for more than an hour Tuesday, Toronto blew an 8-3 lead through six innings in losing their sixth straight game, 10-9 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adrian Gonzalezs three-run home run keyed a four-run eighth as the Dodgers won their fifth in a row and 22nd in 27 games. "It doesnt get any worse than that to be honest with you, considering where were at," said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, whose team has lost 13 of its last 17. "Games like that are going to happen every now and then but its really magnified now. We had a nice little lead, nine outs to go and we were in the drivers seat. "Our bullpen has been very good but they kept coming after us, they have a pretty good lineup. We made a run late, but by then it was too late." Andre Ethier and Jerry Hairston Jr. also homered as the Dodgers (52-47) won a ninth straight road game to match their longest streak since July 2004. Gonzalez, Ethier and Mark Ellis each had three RBIs for Los Angeles. Hairston homered in the sixth and Gonzalez erased an 8-6 deficit with a drive to centre off Darren Oliver (3-2) in the eighth, his 15th. One out later, Ethier went deep for the seventh time. The Blue Jays (45-54) continue to disappoint after opening the season with great expectations. "Its definitely not how we drew it up, but thats why you have to play the game on the field," Oliver said. "We definitely have to turn it around so we can enjoy the last two and a half months." Jose Reyes had a two-run home run and three RBIs for the Blue Jays, while Jose Bautista and Mark DeRosa hit solo shots. Brett Lawrie and Bautista each had two RBIs. "You have to tip your hat when a team comes out swinging like that and can score some runs with some home runs, " Bautista said. "Theres nothing that we can do about it at times. We scored nine runs and thats normally enough and our pitchers are not going to give up home runs but some days are like that." Bautista declined to discuss details of the meeting. "Sometimes teams just have to get together and kind of air some things out," he said. "Teammates have to know what everybody is thinking whats in everybodys head. Today was a good day to do it. "After the (all-star) break we were hoping to come out of the gate strong and we didnt. So it was a good time to do it. It went well, we aired some things out. I like to keep it private. I certainly wont discuss the details of what we talked about." Former Toronto reliever Brandon League (4-3) pitched two-thirds of an inning to pick up the win. Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his 12th save despite allowing a run. Down 10-8 in the ninth, the Blue Jays made a push when J.P. Arencibia singled home Adam Lind, but Lawrie ended the game with a fly to the warning track in left. "Were fighters," Bautista said. "We showed it today. We scored a lot of runs and they went ahead and we still tried to battle back. Unfortunately we came up a little short. We have a lot of great capable baseball players in this room. "Were not getting the results right now." Blue Jays starter Todd Redmond held the Dodgers to three runs and seven hits over 5 2-3 innings, while Dodgers counterpart Chris Capuano allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1-3 innings. "I thought (Redmond) did a great job, he gave us what we needed, " Gibbons said. "Its not an easy lineup to face and he held them in check." The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a single by Lawrie, a double by Reyes and a single by Bautista. The Dodgers tied the game 2-2 in the fourth on infield hits to third by Yasiel Puig and Hanley Ramirez, a double by Ethier that scored one run and a single by Ellis that plated another. The Blue Jays regained their two-run edge in the bottom of the inning on DeRosas fifth homer of the season, a double by Rajai Davis, an infield single by Arencibia and a sacrifice fly by Lawrie. Bautista then hit his 23rd homer of the season in the fifth to put the Blue Jays up 5-2 and chase Capuano in favour of Carlos Marmol. Hairston made it 5-3 with his solo homer in the sixth and Brett Cecil came out of the Toronto bullpen to replace Redmond after Tim Federowicz doubled. The Blue Jays added three runs in the sixth against Marmol and looked to be cruising. Lawrie singled home Arencibia and he came around on Reyes fifth homer of the season. "You dont feel great when youre down 8-3 there but you also know youve got three innings." Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Weve been throwing up some big innings lately." Down by five, the Dodgers didnt quit. They scored three in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-6 on singles by Puig, Gonzalez and walks to Ramirez and Ethier that forced in a run. After Dustin McGowan replaced Cecil, Ellis greeted him with a two-run single before Hairston was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. McGowan struck out Federowicz and then got the force at home on a close play to end the inning and keep Toronto up by two before Gonzalaz gave L.A. the lead. "That ball was crushed," Mattingly said. "For me, Adrians been our guy all year. I know Hanley (Ramirez) has been really hot but Adrian has just been there the whole season for us. He doesnt get the same attention because hes kind of been consistent." Notes: Attendance at Rogers Centre was 32,158. ... Davis started in centre field for the Blue Jays against the left-handed Capuano. ... The Blue Jays juggled their lineup with Bautista returning the third spot after 59 games hitting second. Edwin Encarnacion dropped back to fourth, while Melky Cabrera returned to the No. 2 hole. ... In losing 14-5 to the Dodgers on Monday, the Blue Jays committed five errors in a game for the first time since May 18, 2011. .... Cameron McEvoy suffered stage fright in his Olympic freestyle flop, Australian swimmings head coach says.It looked like he was frozen ... how do you call it, stage fright, coach Jacco Verhaeren said on Thursday. It had nothing to do with any physical, technical, tactical choices whatsoever. He just wasnt there at the right time. STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has run some variation of the spread offense since he arrived at the school eight years ago. This years version could be described in two words: Nick Fitzgerald. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound sophomore has been a one-man show for much of the season, including last Saturday when he threw for 417 yards and five touchdowns and also ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 56-41 victory over Samford .The numbers are undeniably impressive. Even Dak Prescott -- the Bulldogs former quarterback who is now an NFL phenom with the Dallas Cowboys -- never had a college game with more than 400 yards passing and 100 yards rushing. There are only two QBs in SEC history who have accomplished that feat: Johnny Manziel and Archie Manning. But it remains to be seen whether Fitzgeralds version of hero ball can lead the Bulldogs to a Southeastern Conference victory during a difficult November that includes games against Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi.Mississippi State (3-5, 1/3 SEC) hosts No. 7 Texas A&M (7-1, 4-1) on Saturday. IIf your quarterback is playing really well, youve got a chance to win, Mullen said. You go watch football on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday and its going to be the exact some deal.Fitzgerald -- a first-year starter -- has been a pleasant surprise for the Bulldogs in an otherwise lackluster season. Hes fourth in the SEC in total offense and leads all of the leagues quarterbacks with 657 yards rushing.Hes been a little inconsistent in the passing game, completing 56 percent of his passes for 1,496 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but his performance against Samford was an encouraging sign.Guys were getting open and I was just able to find a way to get it to them and they did the rest, Fitzgerald said on Saturday. The problem for Mississippi State is if Fitzgerald isnt putting up record-breaking numbers, the offense isnt very successful. Auburn, LSU and Kentucky were all able to hold Fitzgerald to reasonable numbers and the Bulldogs lost all three games.Texas A&Ms defense figures to be a tough challenge for Fitzgerald. The Aggies have some of the leagues most talented defensive linemen, including Daeshon Hall and Myles Garrett, who have combined for 19 tackles for loss this season. That means Fitzgerald will need some help. Where it comes from is uncertain.Receiver Donald Gray had a breakout performance against Samford, catching four passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. But a crowded backfield that includes Ashton Shumpert, Brandon Holloway, Keith Mixon, Nick Gibson and Aeris Williams hasnt produced a consistent performer.Fitzgeralds 657 yards rushing this season are more than the teams top three running backs -- Shumpert (231), Holloway (208) and Williams (206) -- combined.Mullen knows one thing: Since Texas A&M is second in the SEC with 38.4 points per game, the Bulldogs probably arent going to get locked into a defensive showdown. Fitzgerald -- and hopefully some other offensive players -- will have to produce.Obviously, when youre playing a team as explosive as Texas A&M, in the back of your mind, youre thinking youre going to have to score a lot of points, Mullen said.-----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAP .---More AP College Football: www.collegefootball.ap.org . Any rankings cited in this column come from our ESPN Fantasy staff ranks.?Teams on bye this week: Bills, Lions, Colts, Raiders.Refresh often for the latest information.Ruled out before SundayWR Jeremy Maclin (groin), LB Justin Houston (knee), DE Derek Wolfe (elbow), RB Tevin Coleman (hamstring), TE Jacob Tamme (shoulder), RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot), LB Denzel Perryman (hamstring), LB Jatavis Brown (knee), S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder), S Barry Church (forearm), RB DeAngelo Williams (knee), RB Thomas Rawls?(leg), DE Michael Bennett (knee).Early games, 1 p.m. ET (eight scheduled)WR Will Fuller V (knee, questionable) -- inactive LB Derrick Johnson (hamstring, questionable) -- active WR Allen Hurns (concussion, questionable) -- active RB Todd Gurley (thigh, questionable) -- active QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee, questionable) -- active RB Doug Martin (hamstring, questionable) -- active RB James Starks (knee, questionable) -- active WR DeSean Jackson (shoulder, doubtful) -- inactiveLate games, 4:05 and 4:25 p.m. ET (three scheduled)WR Jarvis Landry (shoulder, questionable) -- active WR Kenny Stills (calf, questionable) -- active WR Travis Benjamin (knee, doubtful) -- inactive WR Tyrell Williams (knee, questionable) -- active TE Hunter Henry (knee, questionable) -- active RB Carlos Hyde (shoulder, questionable) -- active WR Dez Bryant (knee, questionable) -- activeSunday night game, 8:30 ETRB Christine Michael (hamstring, questionable) -- active WR Chris Hogan (back, questionable) -- active TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, questionable) -- active RB Dion Lewis (knee) -- inactive WR Julian Edelman (foot, questionable) -- activeUpdates/analysis (most recent first)Late-game running backs (7:07 p.m.): Dion Lewis will not be active for the Patriots tonight, setting up a continued passing-game role for James White. On the other side of the ball, Christine Michael is active after being added to the injury report during the week. Theres still reason for concern about his workload and ability to finish the game, as weve seen with other hamstring injuries this season.Dak Prescott (3:15 p.m.): Theres no need for the Cowboys to have Prescott looking over his shoulder today. Thats why it makes complete sense to see that Tony Romo, although resigned to being a backup QB for now, is inactive this afternoon.Carlos Hyde (3 p.m.): Hyde is active, and given that Mike Davis is inactive for the 49ers, it would appear that the team is not all that concerned about his ability to handle (at a minimum) a significant share of the workload.Travis Benjamin (2:50 p.m): He did not participate in practice all week, so nobody should be surprised to hear that Benjamin will sit this one out for San Diego. There is good news for the Chargers, though, as both Hunter Henry and Tyrell Williams will be active this afternoon.Miami Dolphins (2:45 p.m.): A trio of injured pass-catchers will all be active for Dolphins today. Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills and Dion Sims all will be on the field this afternoon. However, CB Chris Culliver (knee) will need at least one more week to recover from before suiting up for Miami.?Denver Broncos (12:02 p.m.): With the Saints sitting LT Terron Armstead, the decision to roll thee dice on the Broncos D/ST becomes a little easier.ddddddddddddMeanwhile, on offense, the Broncos have dressed only two RBs:?Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs.Matt Jones (11:55 a.m.): While the fact that WR DeSean Jackson is out with an injured shoulder this week is not a surprise to most fantasy owners, news that Jones would be a healthy scratch today might have snuck up on some people. However, the Washington Post saw this coming as early as Thursday. Robert Kelley has the starting RB job on lockdown.Doug Martin (11:50 a.m.): Tampa Bay finally gets Martin back after the RB injured his hamstring two months ago. The timing is fortuitous, as Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) is inactive today for the Buccaneers. Will Fuller V (11:45 a.m.): Jacksonvilles defense should have an easier time stopping Houston today, with Fuller (knee) out. The duo of Keith Mumphery and Braxton Miller will share second-fiddle duties to DeAndre Hopkins.Ryan Fitzpatrick (11:40 a.m.): Although Fitzpatrick is active?for todays game, he will be the backup quarterback for the Jets. Bryce Petty will start, while Christian Hackenberg is inactive.Derrick Johnson (11:30 a.m.): Warm-ups seem to have gone well this morning for the Kansas City linebacker. He tells the NFL Network that hes good to go for todays game.Ryan Kalil (11:25 a.m.): The Panthers center is close to returning, but despite working out this morning and declaring that his shoulder feels better, he is expected to be inactive again today. Gino Gradkowski (knee) should start for the second straight game, though he is also ailing a bit.Bryce Petty (9:05 a.m.): Either?Ryan Fitzpatricks knee is not up to par, or perhaps the Jets simply want to give their young quarterback a start to see what he can do. In any event, sources tell ESPNs Adam Schefter that Petty will start today for the Jets against the Rams.Carlos Hyde (7:45 a.m.): ESPNs Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers running back does plan to play against the Cardinals this afternoon. That said, he also notes that DuJuan Harris, who has impressed, will still have a part in the teams game plan, keeping him in flex consideration.?James Starks (7:40 a.m.): While optimistic, Green Bay is planning to wait until after warm-ups to see whether Starks can make his return from knee surgery today, according to NFL Networks Ian Rapoport.Todd Gurley (7:35 a.m.): A source tells ESPNs Adam Schefter that the Rams RB is expected to play today against the Jets. Gurley has been dealing with a thigh injury and missed two practices this week, so temper fantasy expectations even if he does suit up.Allen Hurns (7:30 a.m.): Hurns was cleared to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday, even as he spent the week in the leagues concussion protocol. Unless he suffers a last-minute setback, the Jaguars fully expect?him to play today.Christine Michael (7:25 a.m.): Thomas Rawls has been ruled out, and now Michael is questionable because of a hamstring issue. Sources tell ESPNs Adam Schefter that Michael should be good, but C.J. Prosise definitely looks to be the safer fantasy option, given the Sunday night kickoff.Official Sunday inactives should begin coming in at approximately 11:30 a.m. ET for the early games, 2:30 p.m. ET for the late games and 7 p.m. ET for the Sunday night game. Sky Sports football pundit Paul Merson looks ahead to West Brom v Burnley on Monday Night Football. Merse went up against his son, St Albans Sam Merson, with his predictions last time out, with the Magic Man picking up four results and one perfect score. Sam registered just two correct results.Heres how they got on... Last time out... Result Paul Merson predicted Sam Merson predicted Liverpool 6-1 Watford 3-1 3-0 Leicester 1-2 West Brom 2-1 1-1 Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham 3-1 3-1 Hull 2-1 Southampton 0-2 1-1 Swansea 1-3 Man Utd 1-2 0-1 Bmouth 1-2 Sunderland 2-0 2-0 Burnley 3-2 Palace 2-1 1-2 Man City 1-1 Boro 3-0 2-0 West Ham 1-1 Stoke 1-1 0-1 Chelsea 5-0 Everton 2-0 2-2 West Brom v Burnley (Monday 8pm, live on Sky Sports 1)I actually think this will be a really, really good game, one of those games that both clubs look back on at the end of the season and say: That was a massive, massive result. The top teams can lose a game and then win five on the trot, but every game is a cup final for these mid-to-bottom teams.I like both managers, they dont get anywhere near the amount of credit they deserve. Sean Dyche barely gets a mention! Who can do the job hes done? Sean Dyche doesnt get the credit he deserves, says Merse West Brom will never go down as long as Tony Pulis is manager. I can understand the fans frustrations sometimes, because they often dont open the game quickly enough. But they have some very good players in Rondon, McClean and Brunt.I think theyll actually have a go at Burnley, and I think Burnley will do the same. I think it will be entertaining. Both teams need to win, and these are the games that these teams highlight.PAUL PREDICTS: 3-2 (Sky Bet odds 40/1) W Brom vs Burnley November 21, 2016, 7:00pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Mersons earlier predictions this weekend...Middlesbrough v Chelsea (Sunday 4pm)Boro have turned the corner. To pick up five points from their last three games - away at Arsenal where they should have won, home to Bournemouth who were on form, and to then get a draw at City, who had just beaten Barcelona. This will be very, very difficult for them, and I think theyre going to set up, as they did against Arsenal and City, to make it very difficult for Chelsea to break them down.Ive played at Boro, its harder to sit back at home than it is away, because the fans will want you to attack, but if they open this game up it will get messy. The three at the back is working for Chelsea, and I think the wing-backs have done great. But playing wing-back is the graveyard shift, its a hard job. Youre up and down, up and down all day, you have to be the full-back and the winger at the same time.Id be shocked if Conte can get his wing-backs doing that week in, week out, and when they start getting tired, you start playing five at the back and getting overrun in midfield. If they can rotate their wing-backs, they can do anything.Theyve been outstanding since the Arsenal defeat, they have ripped teams apart. They made Everton look like a League Two team.PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2 (Sky Bet odds 11/2)Manchester United v Arsenal (Saturday 12.30pm)I think this will be a draw. Arsenal thought they could turn up in February and win, and ended up getting beaten 3-2.Wenger is moaning about Alexis Sanchez and Chile, I think hes just starting to make excuses already.Really, Arsenal should win this game on form, but with Jose Mourinhos record against Wenger, I think he has a hold over him. Im going 1-1.I think Mourinhos record over Wenger makes a big difference. People arent really expecting United to win this, with Arsenal playing well, but Im going one each.PAUL PREDICTED: 1-1 (Sky Bet odds 5/1) RESULT: 1-1Sunderland v Hull City (Saturday 3pm)Im going for Sunderland here. I watched them against Bournemouth and they were decent. Moyes played two up front, and I think thats the important thing.Victor Anichebe was unbelievable, unplayable, and I expect them to beat Hull. Victor Anichebe starred for Sunderland against Bournemouth Hull got a massive result against Southampton, but this is difficult. They need to get something from the game, but I think the home advantage will make a difference.PAUL PREDICTED: 2-1 (Sky Bet odds 15/2) RESULT: 3-0Watford v Leicester City (Saturday 3pm)This will be a good game, and I dont see much between the two teams. At the moment I think theyre relatively evenly matched, and you dont know whether Leicester are going to rest players for the Champions League. Will Leicester rest any players for their midweek Champions League game? Watford havent really got that run together, but overall I think theyve done great to be where they are. They cant moan at their last 18 months at all.PAUL PREDICTED: 1-1 (Sky Bet odds 5/1) RESULT: 2-1Crystal Palace v Man City (Saturday 3pm)This is a big one. Coming back off the international break is always a leveller.Palace are on one of those Alan Pardew runs, where you can win five on the trot then lost five on the trot. Six months half price Upgrade to Sky Sports to watch Man Utd v Arsenal on Saturday and get the first six months half price The other week, when Palace got back to 2-2 against Burnley, there looked to be only one winner, then Burnley go up the other end and score. Its a rotten run.I think it always feels like a hard place to go, Selhurst Park, but Aguero didnt play for Argentina in midweek and I can see him firing.PAUL PREDICTED: 1-3 (Sky Bet odds 10/1) RESULT: 1-2 Sergio Aguero was rested for Argentina in midweek Everton v Swansea (Saturday 3pm)I cant see anything but an Everton win here. I know they got a good hiding at Chelsea, but if Chelsea keep playing like that, a lot of teams will be on the end of that. But Swansea are struggling. I like Bob Bradley, and Paul Williams has just come in to help him out, but is that a Bob Bradley appointment? Its a bit of a strange one for me. Everton will stroll past Swansea, says Merse I think Everton will get back on track here with a comfortable win.PAUL PREDICTED: 3-0 (Sky Bet odds 10/1) RESULT: 1-1Stoke City v Bournemouth (Saturday 3pm)I never go against Stoke at home, as you know! Theyre flying at the moment, theyve turned the corner, and Bournemouth have had two shocking results against Boro and Sunderland. They were on a nice little run, and I dont think they took their foot off the gas per se, but they got a tad lackadaisical. At the end of the day, theyve put themselves in a bit of a problem now. If they lose this, thats three on the trot, and when one minute youre looking at mid-table, the next youre looking at teams around you and youre dragged back into it. Wilfried Bony hit form for Stoke against Swansea Stoke have been as good as anybody in the last few weeks, and when Bony has his confidence, hes so hard to play against.Joe Allen is playing as well as anybody, Arnautovic I have always said is top drawer, and Shaqiri too. When theyre all clicking at the same time, Stoke are a force.PAUL PREDICTED: 3-1 (Sky Bet odds 14/1) RESULT: 0-1Southampton v Liverpool (Saturday 3pm)This should be a real, real good game. For Liverpool, these are the times youve got to take advantage. Other teams will come back from international duty, look at the fixtures and think: Wait a minute, weve got Champions League and Europa League this week, do we rest players or not?Liverpool dont have to do that. Jurgen Klopp can play his best team, tell them to have a couple days off in the week, and thats your advantage.Southampton have had a couple of shocking results, being completely outplayed by Chelsea, and then going to Hull and losing. All of a sudden, theyre on a bit of a slump with the Europa League game coming up. Liverpool hit six past Watford last time out Three weeks ago this looked like a difficult game, and all of a sudden it doesnt now.Liverpool so far this season are the most exciting team in the Premier League, but theres a long way to go.PAUL PREDICTED: 1-3 (Sky Bet odds 14/1) RESULT: 0-0Tottenham v West Ham (Saturday 5.30pm)Im going to go for a comfortable Spurs win. Theyve had a couple of bad results in the Champions League, but theyre still undefeated in the league. It was a very even game against Arsenal a fortnight ago, and with West Ham still struggling, I cant see anything but a Spurs win. Tottenham striker Harry Kane celebrates after equalising against Arsenal These two really dont like each other, full stop. Its a big grudge game. To be unbeaten so far this season is some going in a difficult league.PAUL PREDICTED: 2-0 (Sky Bet odds 6/1) RESULT: 3-2Upgrade to Sky Sports now to watch Man Utd v Arsenal this Saturday and get the first six months half price!
