VANCOUVER - With their leading scorer sidelined because of the flu, the Vancouver Canucks turned to some unlikely sources for offence on Tuesday night. Larry Johnson Jersey .Ryan Stanton scored his first goal in more than a year and Nick Bonino and Linden Vey also broke long droughts as Vancouver downed the New York Islanders 3-2.I think every team thats good in this league and wins has some secondary scoring, said Santon. I think we got it tonight. Bonino got out of a slump there, Vey got one and probably the least likely guy to get one — me — got one.It was nice and it feels so much better in a win.Stantons goal was the rugged defencemans first in 84 games dating back to Oct. 17, 2013, while Bonino scored his first in eight games and Vey buried his first in the last 13.It hasnt been fun. I think Im doing well in other areas of the ice, said Bonino, who now has two goals in the last 24 games. I feel like Im playing good hockey, the puck just wouldnt go in. There have been chances every night. Tonight one went in. Hopefully it continues.Vey, who was only elevated into the lineup after Canucks sniper Radim Vrbata and his 16 goals and 13 assists fell ill earlier in the day, found out he would be suiting up after arriving at Rogers Arena about 2 1/2 hours before faceoff. You need guys to step up. Obviously (Bonino) has been snake bitten for a while and hes had lots of chances, said Vey. Its good to see him find one. And obviously you get a goal from Stants whos struggled in the goal department this year.Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins reunited Henrik and Daniel Sedin with Alexandre Burrows on the first line and had planned to put Bonino and Chris Higgins with Vrbata before Vey was pressed into action. While the twins werent able to click with Burrows, Vey found chemistry on with his linemates.I think its always nice to capitalize on an opportunity, said Vey, who was healthy scratch on Saturday. I just wanted to bring a little more energy and create a little bit more and I got to play with Bonino and Higgins. Those guys are two great players and it makes the game a lot easier.Eddie Lack got the call in place of No. 1 goalie Ryan Miller and made 21 saves for the Canucks (23-12-3) in his first start since Dec. 17. The win improved Vancouver to 5-1-1 over its last seven.I really felt like we played a good team game. I feel like they made me see the puck all night, said Lack, who turned 27 on Monday. I kind of felt it took me five, 10 minutes to get into the groove a little bit. I felt like I was chasing the game a little bit, maybe like training camp again. After that I felt normal.Matt Martin and Mikhail Grabovski scored and Jaroslav Halak made 17 stops for New York (26-13-1), which was coming off a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.I didnt think we were sharp. We didnt execute, said Islanders forward Kyle Okposo. The last couple games, even three games, we havent been ourselves, havent had that same pop and we just have to find a way to get that back. Its not time to panic, but we just need to be better.Vancouver grabbed a 2-1 lead at 8:01 of the second period after New York defenceman Thomas Hickey tried to clear the puck up the middle of the Islanders zone. It was intercepted by Kevin Bieksa at the blue-line and he fired a shot that Bonino redirected in front of Halak before shovelling home the rebound.Vey then stretched the lead to two at 17:36 after Hickey turned the puck over on a rush and Derek Dorsett fed a streaking Vey, who moved in alone and fired a shot through Halaks pads for his sixth of the season. We played a pretty good hockey game, but you cant manage the puck like that and expect to win. Thats the bottom line, said Islanders head coach Jack Capuano. The whole thing about this game is being able to execute your breakouts and for whatever reason or defence didnt move the puck tonight and before you know it, its in the back of our net.The Canucks nursed that 3-1 lead in the third period and Lack was rarely threatened until Grabovski scored his sixth of the season and first in 11 games off a pass from Okposo after a Bieksa turnover at 14:33.Lack and the Canucks were embarrassed by the Islanders at Rogers Arena last March in a game that saw Vancouver blow a 3-0 third-period lead in a 7-4 loss, but the hosts would hold off a late charge on this night.I was kind of thinking of it a little bit before the third period, but once we started playing I was feeling normal again, said Lack. The Islanders opened the scoring at 9:38 of the first period after Islanders defenceman Travis Hamonic moved down the right side off the rush and threw the puck in front to Martin, who fought off a check from Bieksa to direct home his fifth of the season. The Canucks got that one back less than three minutes when Vancouver forward Brad Richardson jumped on New Yorks first costly turnover behind Halaks net and walked out front. Halak made the first save, but the rebound squirted to Stanton and the pinching defenceman scored his first goal in more than 14 months into the open side.It definitely felt nice, he said. Obviously Im not a huge goal scorer, but when you go 80 some games without scoring a goal it definitely starts to creep in the back of your mind.Notes: The Canucks lost Richardson to a lower-body injury in the second period, but Desjardins said he expected him to be OK. ... Grabovskis goal was just his second in the last 22 games. ... Vancouver continues a five-game homestand on Thursday against Roberto Luongo and the Florida Panthers. ... The Islanders visit the New Jersey Devils on Friday.—Follow @JClipperton_CP on Twitter Cameron Erving Jersey . Johns IceCaps erased an early two-goal deficit to come from behind and defeat the host Portland Pirates 5-4 on Saturday in American Hockey League action. The Red Wings hadnt played the night before. The Boston Bruins had. A month from now, or two months from now, it doesnt matter. But right now it does matter, when you start and you play back to back, its wear and tear on you for sure, Babcock said. With the 2014 CFL Draft set to take place Tuesday in Toronto, CFL on TSN analyst Duane Forde breaks down the top prospects. Today, he looks at receivers. 1. Devon Bailey (St. Francis Xavier) You Should Know: The former high school volleyball player is a two-time AUS All-Star.The Good: He uses his 64", 205 lbs. frame to his advantage by being physical with defenders and winning battles for jump balls. The Bad: He is still raw as a receiver and needs significant work to refine his route running skills. 2. Kris Bastien (Concordia) The Good: He is a playmaker, having led the Stingers in both receiving yards per game and touchdown catches in each of the last three seasons. The Bad: His production doesnt match his impressive physical ability. 3. Scott MacDonell (Queens) The Good: As a 65" receiver with sub-4.7 speed, he has a very large catching radius and, at 230 lbs., he can also play in tight end sets. The Bad: His strength will need to improve in order for him to take full advantage of his size. 4. Tore Corrado (Simon Fraser) The Good: Hes a two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Star kick returner and, despite not being a starting receiver, he has played a lot in the Clans spread offence. The Bad: Hes slight at 60", 175 lbs. and will need to get stronger to compete against CFL DBs. 5. Jordan Catterall (St. Francis Xavier) The Good: The 2010 AUS Rookie of the Year and two-time conference All-Star posted the second fastest 40-yard dash among draft eligible players at last springs East West Bowl. The Bad: Hes a smaller receiver at 510", 180 lbs., and is still recovering from a knee injury (torn ACL) that abbreviated his 2013 season. Other Contenders: • Alexander Fox (Bishops) – 57", 185 lbs; led the nation with 1009 receiving yards and 12 TD in 8 games last season; 3rd in CIS in 2013 with 21.5 yards per catch; 24 bench press reps, 4.64 forty at CFL Combine• Evan Pszczonak (Windsor) – 60", 180 lbs.; 1344 receiving yards over last two seasons ranks third among draft eligible receivers; topped CFL Combine with 40" vertical; also 3rd among CFL Combine receivers with 4.59 forty• Alex Pierzchalski (Toronto) – 64", 225 lbs.; led all draft eligible receivers with 51 catches in 2013; 4.82 forty, 14 bench press reps at CFL Combine• Kit Hillis (Saskatchewan) – 58", 175 lbs.;103 catches over the last two seasons leads all draft eligible receivers; led CIS with 132.8 receiving yards per game in 2012; 4.71 forty and 12 bench press reps at CFL Combine• Brian Marshall (Western) – 60", 200 lbs.;; only Fox (1631) has more yards over the last two seasons than his 1518; despite 4. Eric Berry Jersey. 90 forty at CFL Combine, he leads all draft eligible receivers with an average of 20.5 yards/catch over last two seasons; 22 bench press reps at CFL Combine• Andrew Smith (Manitoba) – 61", 205 lbs.; 41.5" vertical at Edmonton Regional Combine topped all draft eligible players; hurt by 5.00 forty at same event; among draft eligible receivers, his 604 yards in 2013 ranks 4th and 18.9 yards/catch ranks 3rd Also on the Radar (alphabetically): Landon Buch (Regina); Alex Carroll (Queens); Mike Harrington (Concordia); Nathan Heather (Bishops); Francis Lapointe (Sherbrooke); Bryce Lawrence (Western); Jay Smith (Regina); Andrew Thibaudeau (Western); Troy Trentham (Mount Allison); Quincy Van de Cruize (Bishops / Westshore Rebels) Analysis: I suspect that, if you looked at the draft boards of all nine CFL teams, the receivers would be listed in nine completely different sequences. They were the most challenging group to rank, primarily because every prospect has obvious strengths...and equally apparent weaknesses. Like the O-Line, this group was also impacted slightly by the changes to the draft eligibility rules, which led to the reclassification to 2015 of Simon Frasers Lemar Durant, who wouldve been a potential #1 overall pick. Legitimate burners Bobby Pospischil (Simon Fraser) and Matt Uren (Western) were also reclassified. In the absence of Durant, there is no "total package" in the group so, even more than usual, where a team ranks a given player will depend upon what skills and physical attributes they value the most for their team or system. For my money, Bailey has the highest ceiling, as big, athletic body who relishes contact. He didnt need to run great routes to be successful in the CIS but those skills will improve as an adjustment to facing better competition on a daily basis, particularly on a team with solid veteran mentors. Bastien may be the most polished receiver at this stage, especially among the bigger targets, and that wont go unnoticed. Look for MacDonnel to garner some relatively early attention as well. Much like fullbacks, the demand for tight end bodytypes exceeds the supply, making them particularly valuable to any team with that specific need. If a team is looking for a non-import Z receiver (wide side WR), the smallish size of some of the top prospects may be less of an issue for them. Overall though, the lack of unanimity in terms of opinion could lead to the 2014 Draft being the third one in a five-year span where no receivers are chosen in the first round.
