Getting kicked while youre downThe situation: Moments after touchdowns across the league, kickers line up at the 15-yard line for what used to be gimme points. The play: The NFL wanted to inject a little drama into what used to be a sure thing when the extra-point kicks were moved from the 2-yard line to the 15. Consider it mission accomplished, especially after Sundays record 12 PAT misses, including two from the Giants Robbie Gould and the Bengals Mike Nugent, who had missed only six in his 12-season career coming into the game. Kickers missed eight PATs in the early games, with four more coming during the late games. Listen to Nugent explain what went wrong.AP Photo/Gary Landers.Dez BryantRavens vs. Cowboys ? The play: Chris Conte, who had a pick-six against the Bears, steps in front of Chris Conley for an interception and races 53 yards before being forced out of bounds. It is the first interception tossed by Alex Smith on a pass thrown into the end zone since Week 13 of 2013 against the Broncos. He attempted 38 passes into the end zone between that game and Sunday. EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer doesnt want the Green Bay Packers to know who his starting quarterback will be. Hes committed enough to that goal that the Vikings players might not know who their starting quarterback is before Sunday night.Zimmer said again Wednesday he wont reveal whether Shaun Hill or Sam Bradford will start against the Packers, as the team continues its shell game with the two quarterbacks for another week. The Vikings started Hill in their season-opening win over the Tennessee Titans, eight days after they traded for Bradford following Teddy Bridgewaters season-ending knee injury. Zimmer told players last Thursday that Hill would start. Word leaked of the decision on Friday, and Zimmer said he was irked enough that hes considering keeping the information from his players so it doesnt get out again.Typically I do [tell the players], Zimmer said in a conference call with Green Bay media on Wednesday. I did last week. I dont know if I will this week or not because it started leaking. Usually I like to inform the team of everything thats going on here and what Im thinking, but I was a little disappointed that some of the things go out. Well just see hhow it goes.dddddddddddd I may talk to them. I dont know. Maybe I will.Packers coach Mike McCarthy said its his understanding that Bradford will start, adding that the subterfuge amounts to little more than a nuisance in the preparation process. It lengthens it some, but its still part of your process, McCarthy said. Its no different than if one was starting and the backup came in because the starter was sick right before the game. You have to be prepared for everybody that you anticipate being on their 46-man roster -- and Im not trying to just throw water on it, either. The quarterback position is the most important position in football, so it just lengthens your process. Weve got to make sure were ready for Sam, and make sure were ready for Shaun.Hill threw for 236 yards in the Vikings win over the Titans, and Bradford was active as the second-string quarterback. The team gave up its 2017 first-round pick and a conditional 2018 fourth-rounder for Bradford after Bridgewater tore multiple ligaments in his knee in a noncontact play during the Vikings Aug. 30 practice.
