A snapshot of the five key facts and figures heading into Sundays NRL grand final between Melbourne and Cronulla.* THE PURPLE WALLWe know that defence wins premierships - of the last 10 grand final victors, six have been the best defensive team all year. This bodes well for Craig Bellamys side. They lead the competition in all of the major defensive categories, including points conceded (12.5), linebreaks conceded (2.7) and missed tackles (19.5).* BALL CONTROLThis one will come down to completion rates. No one does it better than the Storm - they completed at 81.9 per cent this year, the only team to boast an average over 80. We know the Sharks have strike all over the park. But can they hold onto the ball long enough to put points on the board against the ultra-disciplined Storm? Shane Flanagans team ranked 11th for completions at 76.2 per cent.* EXPERIENCEThe Sharks side which will run onto ANZ Stadium will be the most experienced side to play a grand final since 1954. Their 17 will have a combined 2742 matches worth of first-grade experience - beating Brisbanes 2015 grand final side which had 2272 games experience. On the other hand, the Storm have old heads like Cameron Smith who is playing his 30th finals match - the equal fifth most of any player in history. They also have 15 grand finals between them compared to Cronullas seven.* THE IRRESISTIBLE FORCE PARADOXWhat happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object. The question has stumped philosophers for generations but we might get an answer on Sunday night. The Storm have averaged the most metres of all teams this year with 1508m. While the Sharks have conceded the least metres with 1302m. Who wins?*PENALTIESDiscipline shapes as the Sharks Achilles heel. They have conceded the second most penalties this year - an average of 7.7 per game. Its an alarming stat considering 40 per cent of the tries they have let in have come in the set following penalties. James Maloney (31) and Michael Ennis (28) have also been the two most heavily penalised players in the competition this year.Statistics source: Fox Sports Stats Custom Tampa Bay Rays Nike Jerseys . To the surprise of many, it isnt the Wolverines but their in-state rivals the Michigan State Spartans.NEW YORK -- Kellen Winslow Jr. turned a three-day tryout into another chance at reviving his NFL career. The former Pro Bowl tight end was signed to a one-year deal by the New York Jets on Friday after a solid performance during the teams minicamp this week. Winslow was brought in on a tryout basis and impressed coach Rex Ryan, who wouldnt comment Thursday as to whether a signing was imminent but seemed to indicate he was pleased with what he saw. "That athleticism and his ability to catch the football," Ryan said, "it certainly jumps out." Winslow received a call from the Jets last Saturday, flew to the New York area Monday and was practicing the next day. He was active during the minicamp practices, making several catches on throws from both Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith. He was also used red-zone drills, in particular, with a few of his receptions coming in those situations. "Hes still a very athletic guy," Ryan said. "How many catches he had specifically, Im not sure, but you certainly feel his presence." Winslow, who turns 30 next month but said his sometimes troublesome knees were healthy, adds depth to a position thin on experience after New York allowed Dustin Keller to leave as a free agent. Jeff Cumberland, with 32 career catches in three seasons, has been the projected starter, with Konrad Reuland, a solid blocker, and former rugby player Hayden Smith the backups. Winslow played in just one game last season with New England before assking for his release.dddddddddddd He expected to get another shot, but was left wondering about his NFL career this off-season when no calls came. Winslow said after his first practice with the Jets that "I have years left." Before leaving the teams locker room Thursday, Winslow said he hadnt heard yet if he would be signed by the Jets but made it clear he thought he could add something to Marty Mornhinwegs offence. "I feel like it would be a great spot," Winslow said. "I like it here. I like the team, I like the teammates. Hopefully, I can stay." Winslow, the son of Hall of Famer and former Chargers star Kellen Winslow, was a first-round draft pick of Cleveland in 2004. After a broken right leg as a rookie and a torn knee ligament the next year, Winslow had 89 catches in 2006 and made the Pro Bowl as an alternate the following year. He was traded to Tampa Bay in 2009 and had solid seasons of 77, 66 and 75 catches. The Buccaneers traded him to Seattle before last season, but he was waived in September after declining to reduce his salary. He signed with New England a few weeks later and played one game with one catch for 12 yards -- before asking for and being granted his release. "We thought Kellen did a nice job given the fact that you get off a plane, you get into a meeting, and a couple hours later youre out on the field," general manager John Idzik said. "I think all things considered, he did a pretty good job." ' ' '
